Mesterolone (Proviron) is an orally active androgen and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) derivative. It is commonly used to enhance free testosterone levels by binding to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). Proviron is often utilized to improve libido, increase muscle hardness, and support anabolic steroid cycles due to its non-aromatizing properties.

Although Proviron was once popular as an anti-estrogen, it has largely been replaced by true aromatase inhibitors (AIs) like Arimidex, Aromasin, and Letrozole. While it may offer some estrogen-controlling effects, high doses or prolonged use can suppress luteinizing hormone (LH) and potentially inhibit post-cycle recovery.

SIDE EFFECTS

While Proviron does not convert to estrogen, it may still cause side effects, including:

• Male pattern baldness (especially in those genetically predisposed)
• Prostate enlargement if abused
• Androgenic effects like oily skin or acne

Proviron is not C-17 alpha-alkylated, meaning liver toxicity is not a concern. However, due to its strong androgenic nature, it is not recommended for female use, as it may cause irreversible masculinization effects.

• Detection time: 5-6 weeks (making it unsuitable for tested athletes)

Proviron is often used during anabolic steroid cycles to enhance muscle hardness and free testosterone levels. However, it is not ideal for post-cycle therapy (PCT) due to its potential to suppress natural testosterone production.
